A three-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on I-75 involving a disabled tractor-trailer seriously injured a Kenner, Louisiana woman and injured six other people north of Gainesville.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 43-year-old Orlando man driving a 2019 Chevrolet 3500 pickup was traveling south on I-75 at 3:25 p.m. in the center lane at the County Road 241 overpass behind a 27-year-old Kenner, Louisiana man driving a 2014 Chevrolet Suburban pulling a car hauler trailer.
A 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer was disabled and in the southbound emergency lane when the Orlando man driving the pickup attempted to pass the Kenner man driving the Suburban in the outside lane, the left side of the pickup struck the right side of the Suburban’s trailer. The Suburban turned right and hit the left side of the parked Volvo’s trailer. The pickup then traveled into the emergency lane where it rear-ended the Volvo’s trailer.
The Volvo moved forward and struck a 35-year-old Lake Butler man, a mechanic, who was working on the disabled vehicle’s batteries.
A 40-year-old Kenner, Louisiana woman riding in the Suburban sustained serious injuries while the driver and two other passengers, a 21-year-old Kenner woman and a 1-year-old Kenner girl, received minor injuries.
The Orlando pickup driver and his passenger, a 40-year-old Orlando man, also received minor injuries.
The disabled Volvo occupants – a 37-year-old Miami man and a 24-year-old Miami female – were not injured.
According to the release, the investigation is underway, and charges are pending.
