ABC to air true crime feature on Gainesville Ripper

More than three decades after a serial killer paralyzed Gainesville, ABC’s “20/20” program is airing a true crime special feature on the infamous Gainesville Ripper.

The two-hour special, which airs at 9 p.m. Friday, includes an exclusive interview with Cindy Dobbin, the woman whose tip broke open the case.

“She opens up about her tip to authorities that led them to serial killer Danny Rolling, responsible for at least eight murders, including the Gainesville crimes and a triple homicide in Shreveport, Louisiana,” an ABC News press release said.

Rolling killed five UF students in the span of four days in August 1990. In the interview, Dobbin talks about why she suspected Rolling’s guilt and called Crime Stoppers.

According to the press release, the program—which is titled simply “Gainesville”—will also include the first interview with Scott Grissom, whose father, sister and son Rolling killed in Shreveport.

“Grissom reflects on losing his relatives and the pain he still feels over 30 years later,” the release said.

Other interviews on the “20/20” program include family members of the Gainesville victims and law enforcement officials who who worked on the case.
