ACSO: Man kills self as deputies serve warrants

A Gainesville man shot and killed himself after Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies attempted to serve two active warrants Friday morning at the Oaks Condominiums.

According to ACSO spokesperson Art Forgey, Ramon Alex Tocabens, 58, had active warrants for child neglect and cruelty toward a child. Deputies surrounded Tocabens’s apartment at 6519 W. Newberry Rd. at 7:15 a.m. and knocked on the door. No one responded, but at 7:30 a.m. Forgey said deputies heard a gunshot.

Deputies called in the SWAT team, which breached the door and deployed a robot to examine the scene. Tocabens was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Forgey said.
