Alachua County plans walk-up vaccine clinics starting Tuesday

A month after Gov. Ron DeSantis opened up COVID-19 vaccine access to any adult in the state, the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County has adopted something of a “flood the zone approach” to its vaccination campaign.

With demand slowing, the health department is taking the vaccine into the community with a series of free vaccination clinics in Gainesville this week. None require an appointment, and each one is open to Florida residents 16 years of age or older.

  • May 4: Celebration United Methodist Church (9501 SW Archer Rd., Gainesville) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Pfizer vaccine only)
  • May 5: Trinity United Methodist Church Worship Center (4000 N.W. 53rd Ave, Gainesville) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Pfizer vaccine only) 
  • May 6: Celebration United Methodist Church (9501 SW Archer Rd., Gainesville) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Pfizer vaccine only)
  • May 7: Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center (1028 NE 14th St., Gainesville) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Pfizer and Moderna vaccines)

Those under age 18 can only receive the Pfizer vaccine and must have a guardian present at the time of vaccination. All participants must bring proof of residency.
