A new bus route will serve the Jonesville area, Alachua County announced on Friday.

Operated by Gainesville’s Regional Transit System, Route 52 will expand to four new stops in Jonesville before heading to its end point at UF Health’s Shands complex on Archer Road. The four stops in Jonesville will end at the Jonesville Plaza.

According to the county, the bus will run every 60 minutes during typical commuter times and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The route also includes stops along SW 20th Avenue and UF’s campus.

This is the first route planned by the county and funded with Multi-modal Transportation Mitigation funds collected from new development.

“It is important to have strong transportation networks within the City of Gainesville and in the urbanized unincorporated area,” Chris Dawson, transportation planning manager, said in a release. “This new route will encourage bus ridership as the Jonesville area grows. It will provide accessibility to jobs, services, and healthcare.”
