The Alachua County Legislative Delegation will host its annual meeting at Santa Fe College on Monday, giving local leaders and residents a chance to bring important topics to the forefront ahead of the Florida Legislature’s 2026 session.
The meeting will start at 1 p.m. in the Joseph W. Fordyce Building (R-01) on the college’s Northwest Campus (3000 NW 83rd St., Gainesville). The delegation meeting will end when all speakers are finished, or at 5 p.m.
Residents can fill out cards at the meeting to earn a speaking slot. Officials from each of Alachua County’s nine cities, the county itself, the state attorney and public defender will each have time slots toward the start of the meeting.
Any local bills filed by members of the delegation will also be discussed at the start. So far, no local bills have been filed by any of the five delegation members.
The delegation meeting is typically streamed on The Florida Channel, and you can also view archived meetings from previous years on the site.
The announcement for the delegation meeting said that state Rep. Yvonne Hayes Hinson, D-Gainesville, planned to present a local bill concerning the Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) Authority. But Hinson’s office confirmed that she has not filed that bill and doesn’t plan to discuss it on Monday.
Hinson was the lone dissenting vote when the Alachua County delegation decided to introduce a bill creating the GRU Authority.
Hinson announced in September that she will not seek re-election in 2026, making the upcoming session her last. Hinson has served as the only Democratic Party member on the Alachua County delegation since her election in 2020.
The previous delegation meeting happened in January ahead of the 2025 session. You can read about the proceedings here.
