A gas leak inside Turkey Creek Golf and Country Club prompted the Alachua Police Department (APD) to evacuate several residences, according to an APD Facebook post.

APD offficers and Alachua County Fire Rescue personnel were on site of the gas leak, possibly caused by a lightning strike, Wednesday morning.

According to the release, the immediate area and several residences were evacuated close to the leak, which was near the intersection of Turkey Creek Boulevard and NW 109th Place.

As of 3 p.m., Gainesville Regional Utilities crews were still working to repair the gas leak.

“The Alachua Police Department and Alachua County Fire Rescue have left the area and traffic and activity are able to resume as normal, while GRU works to restore service,” the Turkey Creek community association management company wrote in an email to residents. “We have not been informed how many residents the current service outage impacts.”
