The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has announced two traffic fatalities in Alachua and Suwannee counties.

Just after midnight a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian who was walking near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. (U.S. Highway 441) and NW 147th Drive.

FHP listed the victim as a 47-year-old male from the city of Alachua. It said he was in the left southbound lane and the driver was unable to take evasive action.

Gainesville Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, FHP is still investigating a collision that took the life of a 53-year-old UK man last night in Suwannee County.

The crash occurred on County Road 49 near 264th street. A semi-truck was traveling north when the UK man, whose van had been stopped on the east shoulder, attempted to merge back into traffic. The semi’s trailer struck the van, ejecting the driver and fatally injuring him.
