Another drive-by shooting hits East Gainesville

For the second night in a row, a drive-by shooting in East Gainesville left multiple people injured.

According to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Monday night in the 1200 block of SE 19th Terrace, which is in the Lincoln Estates neighborhood.

GPD officers—responding after multiple callers reported shots fired—found that someone in a vehicle driving northbound on SE 19th Terrace fired shots into a crowd, which was standing outside an unspecified residence.

The vehicle then fled the scene, according to GPD, leaving two victims with non-life-threatening injuries.

“GPD detectives are currently on the scene collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses,” the department said in a press release at 10:57 p.m., calling on anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. It listed the GPD Investigations Divisions tip line at 352-393-7700 or Alachua County Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7867 and www.stopcrime.tv.

GPD said it would “continue to keep the public informed as we gather additional information concerning this incident.”

News of the shooting broke as the Gainesville City Commission met at City Hall to discuss, among other things, an open container law.

“I just got some news that there was another shooting in my district, just moments ago,” District 1 Commissioner Desmon Duncan-Walker said. “I am looking at that impact [of alcohol] in my community. I am seeing the disparity, and I am cut tonight.”

On Sunday night a drive-by shooting left one person dead and four others injured in East Gainesville.
