The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) is investigating a shooting incident that left a 12-year-old child seriously injured early Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to a shooting call just after 1 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 6900 block of SW 6th Place, also called Gordon Manor. They found a 12-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds and stabilized the victim until medical personnel arrived. The office is not releasing any further information on the victim at this time.

“It’s an active investigation, and we got a lot of phone calls on it, and we have a lot of leads,” said ASO spokesperson Lt. Kaley Behl. “We have a lot of personnel dedicated to this.”

Behl said 18 officers arrived at the scene the night of the shooting and that it was a high priority case.

She confirmed that the victim is expected to survive and requested that anyone with information come forward through the sheriff office’s website, social media or crime stoppers.

The incident marks the second time in a week that minors have sustained gunshot wounds in Gainesville. Last week, authorities responded to a shooting that left five juveniles injured, once critically, at the American Legion on 6th Street.
