Today Alachua County Sheriff Clovis Watson Jr. announced the details from Friday’s sobriety checkpoint.
Deputies stopped 744 vehicles at the checkpoint, resulting in the following actions:
– 2 DUI arrests

The sheriff’s office conducted the checkpoint event in collaboration with the Florida Highway Patrol, Gainesville Police Department, Alachua Police Department, and the University of Florida Police Department.
Watson announced the event the week before, which Mainstreet Daily News reported at the time. While the primary objective of the Gainesville checkpoint was to stop impaired motorist, authorities said they would also be checking for other violations.
