Authorities investigating infant death in Bell

The death of a 6-month-old child on Jan. 3 in Bell remains under investigation, Gilchrist County authorities announced Monday.

Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) officers responded to to 1689 Rosemary Circle in Bell on Jan. 3 to a 911 call of an infant not breathing around 8:12 a.m., according to a GCSO release.

Gilchrist County Fire Rescue first responders attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. The 6-month-old was pronounced dead on scene.

According to the GSCO, the infant was transported to the medical examiner’s office. A preliminary autopsy report was inconclusive and further tests results are pending. An investigation into the circumstances of the child’s death is ongoing.
