Bell man, 83, dies and 2 seriously injured in collision in Alachua County

An 83-year-old Bell man was killed and two people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on County Road 235 between Alachua and Newberry on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Bell man was driving a Ford Maverick pickup truck eastbound on NW 78th Avenue at 5:05 p.m. when he pulled out in front of a 39-year-old Archer woman driving a Nissan Maxima southbound on CR 235, resulting in a collision with a rollover.

The Bell driver was killed, while his passenger, a 33-year-old Bell woman, was seriously injured.

  1. How many have to die on 235 before the road is repaired and either a blinking light or traffic light is installed? People drive WAY too fast on 235, given the road conditions. Pot holes are enormous!!! There must have been 15 cop cars yesterday at that intersection when I finally got through. WHY??????

  2. You are so right! Is anyone at the county keeping track of the accidents and deaths that occur at that intersection? Apparently not, probably cost too much to fix. Speeding, commercial trucks, and third world country pot holes equals bad things happening on our roads.
