Blaze destroys home on SW 8th Avenue

A residential fire on SW 8^th Avenue destroyed a home late Thursday night.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, the fire was spotted by an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) helicopter conducting night operations. Crews from ACFR and a water tanker from Newberry responded to the blaze at a house east of Parker Road on SW 8^th Avenue.

When units arrived, the residence was fully engulfed with flames going through the roof. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by early Friday morning, but due to the advanced fire conditions when crews arrived, the home was a total loss.

No one was injured during the incident, according to the release.
