A 16-year-old Branford girl died Saturday when the SUV she was riding in overturned while traveling through a hay field in Suwannee County.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 16-year-old Branford girl was driving an SUV east through a hay field around 79th Road and 274th Street at 5:25 p.m. following a heavy rainfall. The SUV began to travel left, causing the vehicle to rotate and overturn onto its right side.

The crash killed the 16-year-old passenger, and the driver sustained minor injuries. Two other passengers — a 16-year-old Branford girl and a 15-year-old Branford girl — were not injured.
