Buchholz High School was placed on lockdown on Wednesday as Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) searched nearby areas close to the school for a suspect.
School officials say the lockdown occurred as a precaution after the suspect tried to evade law enforcement by jumping over a fence, onto the Buchholz campus.
“Whenever there is a call for service in or around a school, generally, a lockdown occurs to keep the kids and staff at the school safe,” said ACSO spokesperson Kaley Behl in a phone interview.
The suspect was a 17-year-old male who was violating the conditions of his probation.
“It’s a low-level offense. There is no horrible crime here or horrible warrant,” Behl said.
The lockdown was lifted once the suspect was caught.
