A 68-year-old Alachua woman died Friday afternoon when she was hit by a sedan while walking on County Road 241.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 22-year-old Jacksonville woman was driving southbound on CR 241 near NW 83rd Lane at 3:05 p.m. when her vehicle struck the Alachua woman, who was walking in the southbound lane of CR 241.
Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead on scene and the driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries.

Let’s be honest. Alachua County rural county roads are not safe, nor are the roads maintained sufficiently to navigate a vehicle safely. With sloping road beds and minimal shoulder pavement, they are not suitable for walking. With farm vehicles, and 18 wheelers now allowed, dangerous to travel in any way, is the here and now. Very sad to hear of these terrible accidents.
We are on CR 241 S (the article doesn’t specify) and we see people trying to walk but it’s so very dangerous. The pot holes are so bad that cars are often bouncing and swerving all over the place. It’s EXTREMELY dangerous when it rains as water just sits on the road. There is ZERO shoulder pavement as you mentioned, but no one cares. Very sad.
