Car hits, kills Lake City cyclist

A car hit and killed a Lake City bicyclist on US Highway 441 in Lake City early Thursday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 39-year-old Lake City man was driving a sedan southbound on US 441 north of SE Sundial Place around 12:15 a.m. when he hit a 31-year-old Lake City man riding a bicycle northbound on the southbound shoulder of US 441.

Emergency responders pronounced the bicycle rider deceased on scene.

FHP spokesperson Lt. Patrick Riordan said it is not known if alcohol played a factor in the incident.“

Any charges that may be made will not be made until the conclusion of the investigation,” Riordan said in an email. “In addition this incident will be under investigation for the next 60 to 90 days to conclude actually what occurred.”
