Two people were injured when their vehicle drove off NE State Road 26 into a tree early Friday morning.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, ACFR and Windsor Fire Department units were sent to the 14000 block on NE SR 26 at 2:52 a.m. and found a single vehicle crushed by a tree.

ACFR District Chief Joe Cox said that one person was ejected from the vehicle and the other person was possibly ejected and was walking around when emergency responders arrived. Both people were trauma alerted and transported to UF Shands Hospital.

Cox said the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of the accident which, due to the overnight storms, may have caused the vehicle to hydroplane and leave the road.
