The Columbia County Health Department is inviting Columbia residents 18 and older to begin signing up now to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis just lowered the age threshold to 60 on Monday, and he said he expects to lower it in five-year increments afterward. However, he also acknowledged softening demand coupled with the expanding access of a third COVID-19 vaccine—indicating the threshold could lower sooner than later.

Officials in Columbia County want to be ready when it happens.

“In the future, each time Governor DeSantis opens new eligible groups, we will already have the information needed to send scheduling appointment information electronically (text/e-mail) and via phone,” the health department said in a statement.

Columbia County residents can use one of three methods to register:

1. http:// http://columbia.floridahealth.gov/ and then selecting the “Register to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine” link.
