COVID-19 fatalities continue to climb in Florida

The Florida Department of Health reported 9,956 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 461,379 cases as of the July 29th report. That is the fifth straight day Florida has reported under 10,000 new cases. 

The FDOH also reported 52,472 new tests from Wednesday. The positivity rate was 12% of the total, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%, and most days has been between 10-13%.

Here is a breakdown of the new coronavirus cases reported by the state for the past 10 days:

6,585 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 253, which is the highest report of COVID-19 related fatalities since the pandemic began. It is the third straight day that fatalities have broken a single day record.

518 new hospitalizations were reported Wednesday bringing the total to 26,017 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The high was set on Monday with 587.

Here are the local figures for total positive tests: 

Alachua County is at 3,448  – up 95 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 316  –  up 9 from yesterday.
Columbia County is at 2,437  – up 114 from yesterday.
Dixie County is at 247 ­– up 6 from yesterday
Gilchrist County is at 305 – down 29 from yesterday
Levy County is at 546 – up 37 from yesterday.
 
In Alachua County towns:
 
Alachua/LaCrosse/Worthington Springs 203  – up 3 from yesterday.
Archer 67 – up 2 from yesterday.
Hawthorne  56 – no change from yesterday.
High Springs 69  – up 10 from yesterday.
Micanopy 25  – no change from yesterday.
Newberry 154  – up 5 from yesterday.
Waldo 11 – up 1 from yesterday.
Gainesville 2,696 – up 68 from yesterday
