COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise in Florida

The Florida Department of Health reported 6,148 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 563,285 cases as of the August 13th report. 

The FDOH also reported 20,402 new tests from Thursday. The positivity rate was 8.08% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

9,276 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 228.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

638 new hospitalizations were reported Sunday bringing the total to 33,155 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. That is the highest day of hospitalizations reported since the pandemic began. The previous record of 621 was reported on Wednesday, August 5th.

Across Florida, 5,962 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of 11 am.
