The Florida Department of Health reported 7,686 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 518,075 cases as of the August 6th report. This is the 13th straight day Florida has reported under 10,000 new cases.
The FDOH also reported 97,725 new tests from Thursday. The positivity rate was 10.12% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.
7,927 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 180. Over the last seven days, the FDOH has reported an average of 155 deaths per day.
When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.
599 new hospitalizations were reported Thursday bringing the total to 29,730 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The highest day of hospitalizations on record – 621 was reported on Wednesday.
Across Florida, 7,226 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of 11 am.Â
