According to Firehouse magazine’s website, Burnham served as Lake City’s fire chief for three years and was with the department for nearly 30 years. Burnham had been on a ventilator, reported WJXT News4 in Jacksonville.

In its press release, the Lake City Fire Department said people interested in helping Burnham’s family can contact the department via Messenger on its Facebook page.

Columbia County has been hit hard by the recent COVID delta variant surge in recent weeks. The Lake City Regional Medical Center has been inundated with COVID-positive hospitalizations, including when it ran to turn away any patients requiring oxygen on the weekend of Aug. 14.
