Dixie County accident kills 1, injures 1

A pickup failed to negotiate a corner and overturned near Old Town on Tuesday, killing the driver and critically injuring the passenger.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 46-year-old male driver from Old Town was heading eastbound on NE 835th Street in Dixie County around 4:08 p.m. with a 37-year-old female passenger from Old Town when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road at the intersection at NE 796th Street. The pickup traveled off the roadway and overturned.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver deceased on scene and the passenger was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital with critical injuries. Neither person was wearing a seatbelt.

FHP is investigating the accident.
