A 76-year-old man from the Miami area died Saturday afternoon in a single-car accident in Dixie County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred at 2:20 p.m. in Old Town. The man was traveling north on U.S. Highway 19 when she veered right onto the grassy shoulder, colliding with a stop sign that came through the windshield.

The car went airborne and then overturned, coming to a stop on its left side facing east on the east grassy shoulder.

According to FHP, witnesses pushed the car back onto its tires to gain access to the driver, who was wearing a seatbelt. First responders declared the driver deceased on the scene.

FHP is still investigating what caused the woman’s car to leave the roadway.

Editors note: The information originally indicated that it was a woman who was killed. This has been corrected.

Alot of the information in this article is incorrect.. I work at one of the businesses right near where this accident took place and heard from one of the first hand witnesses about the situation and a little more than half of the info in the is article is absolutely incorrect. I. E. it was an elderly MALE.. He didn’t die on inpact but did inevitably pass away and a few other pieces of the situation.. Hoping for an updated version of the story with the corrected info.
