Double shooting leaves teen dead in Columbia County

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate a double shooting that resulted in the death a local teenager.

Tuesday evening deputies responded to the intersection of SE Lochlynn Terrace and SE Putnam Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located two 17-year-old juveniles who had been shot.

EMS responded to the scene to render further medical aid. Unfortunately, one of the teens died as a result of his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Dionne Leslie, 17, of Lake City. Next of kin notifications have been completed. The other shooting victim, also 17, is not being identified at this time, but does not have life-threatening injuries.

“We are saddened with this tragic event in our community,” said Sheriff Mark Hunter. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and his family, and our team will continue to work diligently to bring closure to this case.”

Detectives were also made aware of at least one ATV operating in the area around the time of the shooting. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is asking the to contact detectives at (386)758-1095 with any information regarding who was operating the ATV. Detectives are following up on other leads as well, and the investigation remains very active.

The double shooting occurred three days after a shootout at a Columbia County casino left a 42-year-old man dead.
