Dump truck hits, kills Live Oak teen in Suwannee County

A 14-year-old Live Oak girl died when she stepped in front of a dump truck on State Road 51 in Suwannee County on Monday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 52-year-old Lake City man was driving a dump truck south on State Road 51 near Evergreen Avenue SW in Live Oak at 10:25 a.m. when the teenage girl, who was walking southbound on the western shoulder of SR 51, entered the road in front of the truck.

Emergency responders transported the girl to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
