Fire destroys RV, passenger vehicle on US 301

A fire destroyed an RV and a jeep it towed on Saturday south of Waldo on US Highway 301.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, units from ACFR, Melrose Fire Department and Windsor Fire Department responded to the fire at 4:46 p.m.

The RV’s occupants were able to make it out of their vehicle safely before the fire crews arrived, and firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control. Both the RV and the passenger vehicle were a complete loss, according to ACFR.

The fire resulted in northbound lanes on 301 being closed during the incident.
