Firefighters from multiple units extinguished a brush fire pushed by strong winds Thursday afternoon that threatened homes north of High Springs.
According to a High Springs Fire Department (HSFD) release, the call came in around 12:30 p.m. at 28206 N County Road 1491 in unincorporated Alachua County for a reported brush fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a fast-moving grass fire, caused by an escaped pile burn, that was being pushed by strong winds. The crews extinguished the blaze – which grew to five acres – just 10 feet from a home and inches from a trailer on the property.
No injuries were reported and livestock were moved to safety.
Crews from HSFD, Alachua County Fire Rescue, LaCrosse Fire Department and the Florida Forest Service Waccasassa Forestry Center responded to the fire.
