Florida breaks record in reported COVID-19 deaths in a single day

The Florida Department of Health reported 5,831 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 542,792 cases as of the August 10th report. 

The FDOH also reported 35,514 new tests from Monday. The positivity rate was 10.3% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%, and over the last eight days has stayed between 8-11%.

8,553 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 276, which is the highest single day report of fatalities since the pandemic began.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

569 new hospitalizations were reported Sunday bringing the total to 31,354 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The highest day of hospitalizations on record – 621 was reported on Wednesday, August 5th.

Across Florida, 6,767 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of 11 am.

 Alachua County is at 4,246  – up 75 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 519  –  up 11 from yesterday.
Columbia County is at 2,917  – up 24 from yesterday.
Dixie County is at 562 ­– up 9 from yesterday
Gilchrist County is at 369  – up 3 from yesterday
Levy County is at 698 – up 11 from yesterday.

In Alachua County towns:

 Alachua/LaCrosse/Worthington Springs 244  – up 7 from yesterday.
Archer 78  – no change from yesterday.
Hawthorne 74 – up 5 from yesterday.
High Springs 93  – up 5 from yesterday.
Micanopy 35 – down 1 from yesterday.
Newberry 193 – up 3 from yesterday.   
Waldo 17  – up 1 from yesterday.
