Florida continues on a downward trend of COVID-19 cases, fatalities, hospitalizations, positivity rates

The Florida Department of Health reported 2,678 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 576,094 cases as of the August 16th report. 

The FDOH also reported 20,238 new tests from Sunday. The positivity rate was 8.25% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

9,694 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 87.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

248 new hospitalizations were reported Sunday, bringing the total to 34,194 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic.

Across Florida, 5,654 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.
