Florida crosses 10,000 deaths, but new cases and positivity rates down

The Florida Department of Health reported 4,555 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 588,602 cases as of the August 19th report. 

The FDOH also reported 48,201 new tests from Wednesday. The positivity rate was 6.78% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

10,049 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 119.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

450 new hospitalizations were reported Tuesday, bringing the total to 35,650 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic.

Across Florida, 5,402 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.
