Florida crosses 600,000 COVID-19 cases; positivity rate continues to plummet

The Florida Department of Health reported 2,974 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 600,571 cases as of the August 22nd report. 

The FDOH also reported 26,806 new tests from Saturday. The positivity rate was 5.52% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

10,462 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 158.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

IN total, 35,650 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic.

Across Florida, 4,578 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.
