Florida crosses 7,000 deaths from COVID-19

The Florida Department of Health reported 9,642 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 480,028 cases as of the July 31st report. That is the seventh straight day Florida has reported under 10,000 new cases. 

The FDOH also reported 51,482 new tests from Friday. The positivity rate was 11.08% of the total, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%, and most days has been between 10-13%.

Here is a breakdown of the new coronavirus cases reported by the state for the past 10 days:

7,022 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 179.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases. The state maintains a chart of actual days of death on its COVID dashboard showing the deadliest days as July 17 with 134 fatalities, but also more than 100 deaths each day between July 7-23.

439 new hospitalizations were reported Wednesday bringing the total to 26,972 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The high was set on Monday with 587.

Across Florida, 7,022 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of 11 am Saturday.

Bradford County is at 332  –  up 7 from yesterday.
Columbia County is at 2,550  – up 74 from yesterday.
Dixie County is at 264  ­– up 12 from yesterday
Gilchrist County is at 329  – up 20 from yesterday
Levy County is at 583  – up 8 from yesterday.

Archer 68  – no change from yesterday.
