Florida Department of Health reports 6,229 new COVID-19 cases

The Florida Department of Health reported 6,229 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 532,800 cases as of the August 8th report. 

The FDOH also reported 39,798 new tests from Saturday. The positivity rate was 8.5% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

8,315 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 77.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

254 new hospitalizations were reported Saturday bringing the total to 30,505 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The highest day of hospitalizations on record – 621 was reported on Wednesday.

Across Florida, 6,900 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of 11 am.

Alachua County is at 4,142  – up 54 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 494 –  up 25 from yesterday.
Columbia County is at 2,873 – up 38 from yesterday.
Dixie County is at 547 ­– up 72 from yesterday
Gilchrist County is at 363  – up 8 from yesterday
Levy County is at 684 – up 11 from yesterday.
