Florida Department of Health reports 7,104 new COVID-19 cases

The Florida Department of Health reported 7,104 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 487,132 cases as of the August 1st report. This is the eighth straight day Florida has reported under 10,000 new cases. 

The FDOH also reported 41,687 new tests from Saturday. The positivity rate was 9.28% of the total, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

7,084 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 62.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases. The state maintains a chart of actual days of death on its COVID dashboard showing the deadliest days as July 17 with 134 fatalities, but also more than 100 deaths each day between July 7-23.

538 new hospitalizations were reported Saturday bringing the total to 27,150 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The high was set on Monday with 587.

Across Florida, 7,982 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of 11 am Saturday.

Alachua County is at 3,662  – up 72 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 337  –  up 5 from yesterday.
Columbia County is at 2,572 – up 22 from yesterday.
Dixie County is at 272  ­– up 8 from yesterday
Gilchrist County is at 334  – up 5 from yesterday
Levy County is at 595 – up 12 from yesterday.
 
In Alachua County towns:
 
Alachua/LaCrosse/Worthington Springs 217 – up 5 from yesterday.
Archer 70 – up 2 from yesterday.
Hawthorne  61 – up 1 from yesterday.
High Springs 75 – up 2 from yesterday.
Micanopy 27  – no change from yesterday.
Newberry 166  – up 7 from yesterday.
Waldo 13 – no change from yesterday.
