Florida DOH reports 8,109 new COVID-19 cases; hospitalizations and fatalities remain high

The Florida Department of Health reported 8,109 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 550,901 cases as of the August 11th report. 

The FDOH also reported 38,385 new tests from Tuesday. The positivity rate was 11.8% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

8,765 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 212. Yesterday’s report of 276 fatalities is the highest single day report since the pandemic began.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

593 new hospitalizations were reported Sunday bringing the total to 31,947 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic. The highest day of hospitalizations on record – 621 was reported on Wednesday, August 5th.
