Florida reports 3,838 new COVID-19 cases; approaching 10,000 fatalities

The Florida Department of Health reported 3,828 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 579,932 cases as of the August 17th report. 

The FDOH also reported 26,095 new tests from Monday. The positivity rate was 7.91% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

9,758 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 219.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

501 new hospitalizations were reported Sunday, bringing the total to 34,695 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic.

Across Florida, 5,491 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.

Alachua County is at 4,713  up 43 from yesterday.
Bradford County is at 581 up 8 from yesterday.
Columbia County is at 3,071 up 26 from yesterday.
Dixie County is at 609 up 14 from yesterday.
Gilchrist County is at 416 up 11 from yesterday.
Levy County is at 794 up 9 from yesterday.
 
In Alachua County towns:

Alachua/LaCrosse/Worthington Springs 278, up 4 from yesterday.
Archer 82, no change from yesterday.
Hawthorne 83, dropped two from yesterday.
High Springs 105, up 1from yesterday.
Micanopy 38,  up 1 from yesterday.
Newberry 219,  up 1 from yesterday.
Waldo 19, no change from yesterday.
