Fort White motorcyclist dies in collision with sedan

A 69-year-old Fort White woman died when her motorcycle collided with a sedan on Thursday afternoon on County Road 778 in Columbia County.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Fort White woman was riding a 2018 Harley Davidson Freewheeler Trike west on CR 778 southeast of Fort White at 1 p.m. and was attempting to overtake a Saturn Vue sedan, driven by a 17-year-old Fort White man, on its left side within a passing zone.

The driver of the Saturn Vue was slowing down and attempted to make a left turn onto SW Fortune Way, resulting in the motorcycle colliding with the sedan.

Emergency responders transported the motorcyclist to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Neither the driver of the Saturn Vue nor his passenger, a 20-year-old Fort White female, was injured in the collision.
