The city of Gainesville is extending its Cold Night Shelter Program (CNS) through Friday, Dec. 6, as temperatures are projected to drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit except Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the forecast calls for temperatures to be at 29 degrees Tuesday night, 38 degrees Wednesday night, 46 degrees Thursday night, and 36 degrees Friday night.
The CNS Program goes into effect when overnight low temperatures dip below 45 degrees.
Both GRACE Marketplace at the Empowerment Center and the St. Francis House provide CNS services to people who need shelter when the temperature drops below 45 degrees.
GRACE primarily serves individual adults while the St. Francis House provides temporary shelter appropriate for families, women and children.
