Gainesville motorcyclist dies in collision

A Gainesville man driving a motorcycle east on NW 39th Avenue died when a truck turned left onto NW 97th Boulevard in front of him Monday morning.

A 21-year-old Gainesville man died when a truck pulled in front of his motorcycle on NW 39th Avenue Monday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Gainesville man was driving his 2019 Yamaha motorcycle east on NW 39th Avenue at 8:44 a.m. when a 61-year-old Jacksonville man driving west on NW 39th Avenue turned his 2019 Hino truck left at the NW 97th Boulevard intersection.

The motorcycle was in an elevated position with only the rear tire on the ground when the truck turned in front of it, according to the FHP release. The motorcycle struck the right rear of the truck and came to rest in the eastbound lane of NW 39th Avenue.

Emergency responders pronounced the motorcycle driver dead on scene.
