Gainesville woman, 72, dies in 2-vehicle collision in Clay County

A 72-year-old Gainesville woman was killed when her SUV crossed into oncoming traffic on State Road 21 northeast of Keystone Heights and hit a pickup truck on Monday.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the woman was traveling southbound on SR 21 north of Dade Road in Clay County between Keystone Heights and Middleburg at 4:25 p.m. when she entered the southbound lane. The woman’s SUV traveled into the path of a 69-year-old Keystone Heights man driving a pickup truck northbound on SR 21 and the two vehicles collided.

The Gainesville woman’s SUV came to rest on its passenger side facing west on the roadway while the pickup overturned onto the west shoulder.

Emergency responders pronounced the Gainesville woman dead on scene and the passenger in the SUV, unknown age and gender, was reportedly in serious condition.

The Keystone Heights man sustained minor injuries.
