GNV announces road closures for next week

The City of Gainesville announced multiple road closures as it will be working on SW First Avenue, NW 12th Street and NW Fifth Avenue starting next week.

In a road and traffic impact report Friday morning, the city announced road closures will start Monday along SW First Avenue between SW Ninth Terrace and SW 10th Street. They will continue through Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Also on Monday, NW 12th Street between NW Sixth Avenue and NW Sixth Place will be closed through Thursday and the 1200 block off NW Fifth Avenue will be closed through Friday.

New road closure notices include:

  • SW First Avenue: SW First Avenue, between SW Ninth Terrace and SW 10th Street, will be closed Dec. 20 through Jan. 4.
  • NW 12th Street: NW 12th Street between NW Sixth Avenue and NW Sixth Place will be closed Dec. 20 through Dec. 23.
  • NW Fifth Avenue: The 1200 block of NW Fifth Avenue will be closed for thru traffic from Dec. 20 through Dec. 24.

Ongoing construction notices include:

  • NW First Avenue: The 1600-1700 block of NW First Avenue will be closed until 2022 to allow for construction of a new development.
  • SW 25th Terrace, 40th Place and 27th Street: The City of Gainesville is constructing a new sidewalk along SW 25th Terrace, 40th Place and 27th Street between State Road 331/Williston Road and SW 35th Place. Intermittent lane closures should be anticipated until January 2022.
  • SE Second Place: There is a single-lane closure (westbound) on SE Second Place between Main Street and SE Second Street. SE Second Place will be a designated one-way street for eastbound traffic only. This closure is expected to last until the end of April 2022 to allow for the development of a hotel.
  • SW Fifth Avenue: The 1200-1300 block of SW Fifth Avenue will be closed tentatively until the end of June 2022.
  • SW Ninth Terrace: SW Ninth Terrace will be closed between SW First Avenue and University Avenue due to the construction of a new development. Construction is expected to last through August 2022.
  • SE Fourth Street: SW FourthStreet will be open to northbound traffic only from Williston Road to Depot Avenue. Provisions have been made to access Depot Park from Depot Avenue by heading south on SW Fourth Street. Vehicles exiting Depot Park should proceed north to the roundabout. Local traffic will be able to reach their homes and businesses by following the detour signs to Williston Road and heading northbound onto SE Fourth Street. Through traffic will be allowed northbound only from Williston Road. This is a major undertaking for the city and requires lane closures until construction is completed. Travelers should expect a variety of traffic configurations over the course of the project to facilitate the work. The new northbound lane, cycle track and sidewalk are open for use and a new southbound lane is being constructed as part of Phase III.
