A Gainesville man has been arrested for illegally spending more than $2 million from his mother’s trust account.
On Tuesday, the Gainesville Police Department arrested and charged Bryan Weber, 62, with exploitation of the elderly, racketeering, grand theft, and executing a scheme to defraud.
According to police reports, the investigation revealed that in 2015 Weber became the trustee of his mother’s trust account.
Between 2015 and 2018, the report states that Weber illegally spent approximately $2.2 million from the trust by purchasing improvements on his residence, vacations, jewelry, vehicles, and a second residence to live in while his primary residence was being renovated.
Weber completely drained the trust and left his mother, who died in August 2019, with $155,000 in outstanding expenses, according to the GPD.
Weber is currently at Alachua County jail and is being held on a $150,000 bond.
The investigation is on going and the arrest came after a referral from the State Attorney’s Office.
