Update (Monday, 5:03 pm): The city of Hawthorne advised residents that the water line broken around midday was now fixed, but the city is under a boil water advisory until further notice.

Original story:

The city of Hawthorne lost water service on Monday for several hours following a broken line caused by broadband installation.

The city announced the shutdown just before 12:30 p.m. on Facebook. In a phone call, City Manager John Martin said he was on the scene and expected the water to be restored by 4:30 p.m. A boil water notice will be in place when water service resumes, he said.

Martin said the break in the water line only occurred in one place, but the city had to shut down the whole supply to fix the problem.

Hawthorne Mayor Jacqueline Randall informed citizens on the issue in a post.

“A huge inconvenience for us all! Staff is working diligently to resolve the matter quickly as possible,” Randall said on Facebook.

Cox Communications has been installing broadband in the area, and Martin said he expects the company will be finished in April. At the end of January, the city of Hawthorne issued another water loss and boil water notice for only a section of town—Ashley Oaks and Reservation subdivisions.

Martin said that the break was also caused by broadband installation.
