A 59-year-old High Springs man died Wednesday night when his vehicle hit a deer, then veered off State Road 45 where it overturned, ejected him and the car collided with a utility pole.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was driving a sedan south on SR 45 near NW 32nd Avenue north of Newberry at 11:03 p.m. when his vehicle hit the deer. After the collision, the vehicle left the road onto the west shoulder, overturned, hit a utility pole and came to rest on its roof. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency responders pronounced him dead on scene.
