Inglis shooting kills child, critically injures woman

A child who accessed an unsecured firearm accidentally fired the gun and shot and killed another child and critically wounded an adult woman on Thursday in Inglis.

According to a Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) release, deputies responded to a home in Inglis around 8 p.m. to the report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, deputies found a child and an adult woman suffering from gunshot wounds inside the house. The investigation determined two children were playing in a room when one child accessed an unsecured firearm. The gun accidentally discharged with one round striking the second child and an adult female in the room.

UF Health ShandsCair transported the two patients to a local trauma center. The child did not survive and the woman is in critical condition.
