Investigators with the Lake City Police Department (LCPD) have identified human remains discovered nine months ago in a wooded lot.

On Aug. 9, LCPD reported that officers responded to a report of possible human remains at 637 SW Commerce Drive, a wooded lot just east of I-75.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement collected the remains and sent them to the medical examiner. On Thursday, LCPD announced that the remains had been identified as Brett Holcombe.

LCPD reported that Holcombe’s next of kin was notified but gave no other information about Holcombe, including his cause of death.

LCPD said the investigation into Holcombe’s death is ongoing and asked anyone with information about him to contact investigator R. Poteat at 386-758-5469.
