Lake City teen struck, killed while riding bike

A teen driver struck and killed a 15-year-old Lake City teen who was riding his bike late Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

FHP reported that the accident occurred at 11:25 p.m. at the intersection of SW Walter Avenue and SW Cindy Glen, which is a residential area at the southern edge of Lake City.

The 15-year-old was reportedly riding north on SW Walter Avenue—a narrow, two-lane road with no shoulder—and had just passed SW Cindy Glen when a northbound vehicle collided with him from behind. Emergency responders pronounced the teen deceased on the scene.

The occupants of the car, an 18-year-old female driver and a 17-year-old male passenger, were wearing seatbelts and were uninjured in the crash. Both are Lake City residents.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the deceased cyclist was a female.
